Dans le désir, point de rencontre privilégié entre la créature et son Dieu, la sainte découvre Dieu à la fois présent en elle et pourtant au-delà d’elle-même. Cet article entend montrer que le désir infini qui habite l’homme est dans la doctrine catherinienne une réponse au désir infini du Dieu-Trinité, manifesté par le Christ dans sa Passion.

The Mysticism of Catherine of SiennaConsidered from a metaphysical point of view and in the perspective of salvation, the concept of desire in Catherine of Sienna is the basis of a real spiritual pedagogy. Within desire, the privileged meeting place between the creature and her God, the saint discovers God at once present within her and nevertheless beyond her. This article tries to show that the infinite desire which dwells within human beings is (in Catherine’s teaching) a response to the infinite desire of the Trinitarian God, manifested by Christ in his passion.
