520 _aWe investigated how a person could prepare their afterlife in the digital space through building, running, and validating a simulator of their mental space. We introduced the pioneering work of the mathematician Ulf Grenander (1923–2016), who created a prototype of such a simulator. The originality of Grenander’s ThinkBot LEGACY lies in the unprecedented combination of introspection, mathematics, and computer science needed to build it. We compared Grenander’s thought process simulator with deadbots, namely commercial chatbots that can mimic the deceased in conversations with loved ones. We showed why Grenander’s work could help to refine deadbots.
