Grounded in empirical research, it reports on the different itineraries taken by foreign youth, it shows the difficult task of taking care of them through the usual network of caring services and it throws light on the competing representations of the young people in question. The image of the young wanderer becomes a paradoxical political category, torn between the duty of his/her protection and the desire for his/her withdrawal.
