520			_aCet article reprend une étude de synthèse effectuée pendant deux années dans le cadre d’un travail universitaire. Il porte sur la période de transition entre le paganisme et le christianisme comprise entre le ive et le vie siècle. À partir d’une analyse croisée de sources de natures variées, plusieurs thématiques ont pu être abordées : la chronologie de la transition entre le paganisme et le christianisme, l’étude architecturale et fonctionnelle des lieux de culte, et enfin, l’environnement d’implantation des sites cultuels et funéraires. Cela a permis d’établir des conclusions sensiblement différentes des postulats dominants jusqu’à maintenant. Le schéma d’un désintérêt progressif et largement pacifique du paganisme dès le iiie siècle a été dégagé. Parallèlement, l’implantation très progressive, superficielle et largement urbaine du christianisme, en grande partie sous l’impulsion des premiers clercs, soutenus par l’autorité royale, a pu être observée tout au long de la période considérée.
520			_aThis article is based upon a synthetic study carried out for two years as part of an academic work. It focuses upon the period of transition from paganism to Christianity, stretching from the 4th to the 6th century. Thanks to the cross-analysis of different kinds of sources, several themes could be approached : the chronology of the transition from paganism to Christianity; the architectural and functional study of places of worship; and finally, the environment of cult and funeral sites. This led to conclusions that were notably different from the present-day dominant postulates. The pattern of a progressive and widely peaceful disinterest in paganism as early as the 3rd century was made clear. In parallel, the very progressive, superficial and mainly urban implantation of Christianity — principally under the impulse of the first clerics, supported by royal authority — could be observed throughout the reporting period.
