Organisés en confréries, ils paraissent à même d’exprimer leur colère de manière retentissante et concertée, mais, isolés dans leurs actions, ils ne parviennent pas à mettre en place de nouveaux gestes ou rites de violence efficients et se contentent de répliquer inlassablement aux mauvais traitements dont ils sont victimes. La violence à laquelle ils se livrent leur est en fin de compte préjudiciable : ils échouent à mettre à profit leur colère pour sceller un nouvel équilibre social. | ||

In these novels, forced to fight for survival, and responding to the violence caused by the dysfunctionning of society and the state, beggars took on this very violence and made it their own. Organized as they were in brotherhoods, they give the impression of having capabably expressed their anger in a resounding and concerted way but, isolated in their actions as they also were, they did succeed in implementing efficient new gestures or rituals and contented themselves with responding ceaselessly to the bad treatments to which they were subjected.
