Et si la modernité, c’était d’abord cela : une perte, dans tous les sens du terme, de repères ? Appliquée à la Bretagne rurale des années 1960, la notion classique du basculement entend être ici un opérateur d’analyse permettant de saisir pourquoi certaines grandes transformations sont porteuses d’une élision des traces, comment la modernité brouille les pistes.
520			_aBoermerezh or Distraction Boemerezh is a breton word meaning more or less “wandering about” when somebody has suddendly lost the memory of his landmarks in his own fields, as if he had gone through an other side of reality. It is no madness, but a sudden and temporary breaking of reality. May we put forth that it occurs at particular moments of radical modifications in his world such as modernity can afford in physical as well as in symbolic relationship with his human and natural environment. A certain modernity blurs the issues, particularly when human links of solidarity are loosening in such a society.

Angewendet auf die ländlichen Gebiete der Bretagne in den 1960er Jahren soll die klassische Bedeutung des Umbruchs als Analyserahmen dienen, um zu verstehen, warum bestimmte wichtige Veränderungen Lücken hervorrufen, ganz so wie die Moderne bestimmte Pfade verwischt hat.
