By examining different kinds of temporal practices and viewpoints, the author questions the assumption that the earthquake of January 2010 has brought a significant break with the past and shows that rather than an isolated and unique rupture, crisis is a relatively constant feature of historical experience. The ways that people communicate their biographies and imagine their futures reflect this temporal continuity.
