The aim is to show how photography, both as a document and in its representational qualities, is an essential source for an ethnography of urban change in Beirut, part of which, because of successive wars and reconstructions, now exists only in images.

Es soll gezeigt werden,inwiefern die Fotografie als Dokument, aber auch in ihren repräsentativen Qualitäten, eine wesentliche Quelle für eine Ethnographie des urbanen Wandels in Beirut ist, von dem ein Teil aufgrund der Kriege und des sukzessiven Wiederaufbaus eben nur in Bildern existiert.
