520			_aCet article propose d’étudier les logiques qui président au fonctionnement économique, technique et éditorial des services de modération de contenu à travers une recherche originale combinant deux volets : une enquête par entretiens et observation menée entre février et mars 2016 auprès d’un des trois principaux fournisseurs de services de modération aux médias français et une analyse semi-automatisée et comparative d’un échantillon de messages publiés et non publiés par trois sites d’information, portant sur les attentats de novembre 2015 à Paris. Notre travail confronte ainsi la pratique de la modération, encastrée dans un cadre socioéconomique plus large et travaillée par un faisceau de contraintes de natures juridique, technique et industrielle, à la qualité et au pluralisme d’informations qu’elle produit et met à disposition de l’espace public numérique.
520			_aThis article examines the rationale underpinning the economic, technical and editorial functioning of content moderation services. The authors’ original research approach combines: an interview and observation survey undertaken in February and March 2016 on one of the three main moderation service providers for French media; and a semi-automated and comparative analysis of a sample of published and unpublished messages on three news websites, on the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris. The authors thus compare the work of moderation, embedded in a broader socio-economic framework and subject to multiple legal, technical and industrial constraints, on the one hand, with the quality and diversity of the information that it produces and makes available in the digital public space, on the other.
