520			_aRÉSUMÉLes chantiers urbains peuvent être appréhendés dans le cadre de ce qui a été appelé la politique d’ « embellissement des villes » ou comme le terrain d’étude des progrès d’une gouvernance moderne, technicienne et rationnelle, de l’espace public. En étudiant un modeste chantier lyonnais, il s’agit d’interroger la notion de « rénovation » urbaine en mettant en évidence comment ces grilles de lecture citées plus haut ne constituent pas le cadre pertinent de l’analyse et combien même elles peuvent empêcher d’en apprécier l’originalité et la signification historiques dans cette ville marquée fortement par la Réforme tridentine et par l’engagement de son consulat dans une reconstruction spirituelle de ses légitimités politiques. La notion d’espace public, contractuelle et progressiste, doit alors être redéfinie à la lumière des réflexions contemporaines de l’élite dévote quant à la communauté et à sa nature proprement religieuse.
520			_aABSTRACT In the 17th century, the Lyon’s urban power undertakes to renovate the city in order to make one’s authority felt. Its object is to change the sense of the « urban space » against the traditional uses of the roads and places of the town. Defending « public space », the municipal magistrates enter into struggle with the popular notion of « common place ». The wood footbridges upon the Saone’s river in the 1630-1640’s are one of the examples of this confrontation. They allow the historians to look into the opposed conceptions of the city. In the same time, the study of this conflict questions the pertinence of Habermas’ theories about the construction of « public space ». In the Lyon’s municipal perspectives, it’s probably first a « spiritual space ».
