520 _aWithin the “Eutanasia” – Aktion T4 –, about 120.000 victims, most of them mentally ill persons but also political prisoners and forced laborers who could no longer work, were murdered, mostly by gas.The perpetrators and organizers – only a few of them were condemned by the federal tribunals – often made postwar careers. They have become a part of our recent past that we must confront without repressing the facts.Irrespective of all that, the German judicial system has made an important contribution to document the untold suffering of the victims. Nevertheless, too many perpetrators remained with impunity and thus the victims were once more degraded, this time for good.
