520			_aKant et l’esthétique du dessin Le privilège accordé par Kant au dessin sur la couleur ( Critique de la faculté de juger, § 14) est communément interprété comme le symptôme d’une dépendance envers le goût néoclassique, alors dominant. Or il n’en est rien : la beauté non conceptuelle du dessin kantien ne saurait se rapporter à l’épure de l’Idée ; elle doit plutôt être comprise comme le trait du génie, soumis à la dictée de la nature, schématisant sans concept la forme pure saisie par l’imagination dans le divers mouvant des phénomènes, et réfléchie par l’entendement qui en cherche la règle et la poursuit sans fin.
520			_aKant and the aesthetics of drawing The fact that Kant grants Drawing precedence over Colour ( Critique of Judgement, § 14) is usually interpreted as the philosopher’s dependence on the prevailing neoclassical taste of his times. As a matter of fact, the beauty of a drawing – beauty without concept, as Kant maintains – cannot be taken as the expression of the Idea. It must rather be interpreted as the expression of Genius which submits to Nature. Imagination thus schematizes without concept a pure form grasped in the ever moving flux of phenomena, while Understanding tries to find the rule of form, in an endless investigation.
