520			_aOut of concern for sociology and politics related matters the churches of French Polynesia are currently dealing with two important issues: a certain identity crisis linked to the «secular» media surge resulting from 30 years of CEP activities (The Nuclear Test Center in the Pacific), which have entailed the disruption of both economic system and scale of values; and the shock brought about by the sudden cessation of nuclear testing and the expansion of the Territory’s self rule status, two events that caught an unprepared people by surprise.It is within this context that the author shows how the churches have met the «atomic mutation» with a church mutation that has involved lay people in a project aimed at breaking the handout cycle and developing new strategies for growth and education. Despite difficult inter-religion communication the churches do agree on the essential values founded upon human nature. Henceforth, it is within the secular society that they may exert their influences.
