520 _aAt a time when a genuine schism occurred within Orthodox Christianity at the end of the 2010s, it is important to understand the strategies of influence and geopolitical divisions that characterize the Orthodox confessional landscape. To this end, the schism of 2018-2022 cannot be understood without first analyzing the geopolitical dimensions of spiritual and confessional issues, and thus the history and geography of an Orthodox Christian religion grappling with geopolitical antagonisms in the territories where its presence is established. On a qualitative level, this enables us to affirm the importance, sometimes wrongly neglected, of religion in international relations, and on a quantitative level, to assess the importance of Orthodox Christianity.
