520 _aThis article presents a sociostylistic approach which is located within the context of interactive sociolinguistics. Social styles of communication are defined as complexes of multimodal expression which participants associate with social characteristics. Through the elaboration and usage of these styles, participants are able to react to the problems they encounter in their daily life by associating them with social characteristics by means of categorisations. The demonstration of this conception is based on a case study of young second generation German-Turkish migrants (a group of young girls studied collectively in different situations) who live in Germany.
