While the latter triggered a debate over the “historic compromise” in Italy, Spain was no longer afraid of such events taking place after more than thirty years of Franco’s dictatorship. Solidarity with the exiles was present everywhere, even though the Konrad Adenauer Foundation initially supported the Christian Democrats, who were originally in favor of the dictatorship.
