520 _aThis article considers the diplomatic conflict between France and Japan by looking at the Japanese in French Indochina in the early twentieth century. It shows how these conflicts have originated in the legal and administrative treatment of the Japanese, taking into account their race less than their level of civilization. Both categorization criteria founded colonial law, and were also applied to foreigners living in the colonies.
