520			_aThis article aims to explain how Southern Europe has been established as an area of specialisation for the Centre d’Études Politiques de l’Europe Latine (CEPEL) within the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Montpellier. It contrasts the rationale behind the emergence of Southern Europe as an area of study at the international level with those observed locally in Montpellier. It illustrates the various ways in which this area has been developed, both through research repositioned within its intellectual context and through the creation of a specific institutional dynamic before it was brought to an end.
520			_aCet article vise à rendre compte de la façon dont l’Europe du Sud a été érigée en aire de spécialisation du Centre d’Études Politiques de l’Europe Latine (CEPEL) au sein de la Faculté de droit et de science politique de l’Université de Montpellier. Il confronte les logiques d’émergence de l’Europe méridionale comme aire d’étude au niveau international à celles localement observées à Montpellier. Il illustre les façons variables dont elle a été travaillée à la fois par des travaux resitués dans leur contexte intellectuel et par la construction d’une dynamique institutionnelle spécifique avant qu’un terme y soit porté.
