520			_aThere are few studies on the frequency of twin births (twinning rate) in Haiti. Nevertheless, statistics on these births are beneficial for public health since twin children are subject to more significant mortality risks than singletons. For this reason, this paper examines the frequency of twin births, its evolution, and its factors of variation in Haiti from 1985 to 2015. To do this, we have used data from the five Demographic and Health Surveys that the country has conducted. The key findings show a twinning rate of 17 percent (95 percent CI = 15.3−18.7) for 2005–2015, which is one of the highest twinning rates in the Latin America and Caribbean region. We noted, however, that this rate changed little between 1985 and 2015. Furthermore, our results show that advanced maternal age, high birth order, and average body mass index (compared to a low BMI) are associated with a higher probability of twin births in Haiti.
