245 0 0 _aAssessing the strategic alignment of information systems projects: A design science approach

520 _aInformation systems (IS) projects are essential for organizations because they are a way in which the objectives and directions of an organizational IS strategy can materialize. However, the extent to which the benefits of an IS strategy are achieved will depend on the degree of IS project alignment (i.e., the degree to which IS project deliverables are consistent with the project’s objectives, which, in turn, are shaped by the organization’s intended IS strategy). Both practitioners and academics have highlighted the importance of the strategic alignment of IS projects and have called for the development of instruments to better assess such an alignment. Unfortunately, to date, no such instrument has been developed. Using a design science research approach, this paper makes a first attempt to fill this gap. The proposed instrument proposed should help academics to better understand the phenomenon of IS project alignment and its potential influence on project success and organizational performance. It should also help IS project managers make better decisions in the hopes of achieving IS project success.
