520 _aTravel bans against football fans have been making the headlines in French sport news since 2011. At first distant from the phenomenon, the French press gradually started to report on it, with newspapers even changing their editorial terminology. To answer the questions about how and why this change appeared, the aim of this paper is to analyze the press articles written about travel bans and the terminology used to write them—the first indicator of the position the press chose to take on the matter. The eminently controversial nature of the subject between its various actors has quickly appealed to the French press, which has unwittingly become a full-fledged actor in the debate.
