520 _aMany forerunners of social science condemned the use of metaphors, which were considered as obstacles to the search for truth. These exhortations were not listened to at all as far as familiar language is concerned, and are only imperfectly registered in the linguistic usages of the human and social sciences today. We propose to reconsider the importance, in knowledge and action, of metaphoric figures by taking a particularly significant example, the human body.
