245 0 0 _aSociological Rationale for the European Integration Process: Interpretations
260 _c2002.
500 _a29
520 _aThrough a study of the support from citizens for European integration, this article aims to contribute to the understanding of the sociological reasoning for the expression of European citizenship, by proposing both a summary of the various existing theories (theories of cognitive mobilization and value orientation according to Inglehart, the theory of utilitarian assessment of Gabel?s integrative theories, an approach in terms of response to innovation as developed by Percheron, etc.), and an overview of the contributions of a qualitative approach to this issue. In conclusion, it invites us to consider this question by looking not only at the extent of public support for the European political system, but also the type of support expressed and the various visions of European citizenship that make up the resulting concept of "Europe."
