520 _aIf one can only be delighted with the emergence of a zoo-poetics, one can only regret how little it has made use of its Romantic precursors, and when it has, how considerably it has then restricted itself to works in prose. This paper aims to remedy this situation by showing how much Romantic poetry, and in particular that of Lamartine, Nerval and Hugo, tries to engage in an original dialogue with the animal world within the context of the dispute about pantheism.
