520 _aThis article aims to understand the role and position “gilets bleus” (blue vests) hold, that is to say, civic services enlisted to intermediate administrative relations. For this purpose, it is based on ethnographic observation from October 2019 to February 2020, in a French job centre (Pôle emploi), located in a poor area of a large French city. Dealing with low material and symbolic recognition, gilets bleus must cope with conflicting norms to help unemployed users access their rights. In the age of dematerialisation, the analysis of interactions on the free access digital desk reveals some transformations in social policies.
