520 | _aThe industrial revolution contributed to a mechanization of physical force, which led to the emergence of design. Today, the digital revolution questions the practice of design—which is experiencing constant redefinition—and allows in particular for the automating of decisions. What are the challenges and the place for design in the face of such an “algorithmization of decisions”? This paper proposes to study how digital technologies automate decisions, and how to form those decisions in order “to improve or at least maintain the “habitability” of the world.” We will see that design can’t do everything and designers should be supported upstream by other fields, but that some legitimate action paths can nevertheless be proposed for designers concerned by the question. | ||
