520 _aAim: The purpose of this study is to identify influential factors of late recourse to and non-compliance with prenatal consultation norms among Haitian adolescents. Methods This qualitative study was carried out in Haiti’s Nord and Nord-Est departments between October 2020 and January 2021. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with forty-eight participants, including thirty-three pregnant adolescents and fifteen health professionals. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results The results enabled us to categorize influential factors of late recourse to and non-compliance with prenatal consultation norms among Haitian adolescents in three categories: individual, interpersonal, and community. Each category is made up of several factors that promote the poor uptake of medical follow-up during pregnancy in adolescence. Most of these factors are beyond the control of pregnant adolescents. These factors are rooted in cultural and socio-economic injustices linked to the individual’s living environment and the healthcare system. Conclusion Our study has shown that Haitian teenagers are influenced at several levels by factors that encourage late recourse to prenatal care and non-compliance with prenatal consultation norms. They appear to be the result of the influence of social determinisms that are often beyond the control of pregnant adolescents.
