245 0 0 _aSocial and Occupational Categories: Change of Social Conditions but Permanence of Positions?
260 _c2002.

520 _aRecent social analysts argue that social composition has varied to the point that the naming of occupational categories must be changed. The two first parts of the paper mention the major critics addressed to the current taxinomy as well as some social and economic changes which can account for the current desire to change it. However, the paper concludes that these categories should not be modified so far, since the global social equilibrium of classes persists to a large extent. A broader reflexion upon the unescapable distance between “popular,” spontaneous social categories on the one hand and “expert,” statistical categories on the other is offered.
