Parfois librement consenties, ces unions sont toutefois souvent réalisées avec violence. Les plaintes pour viols commencent à être davantage entendues par la justice argentine. L’analyse d’un procès tenu en 2007 souligne le rôle joué par des travaux anthropologiques et historiques dans l’argumentaire de l’un des juges.

These relations, although some may be consensual, are nonetheless most often characterized by violence, a fact which has made the Argentinean state begin to pay more attention accusations of rape.
