Si elles ne bénéficient d’aucun cadre juridique, la médiation animale et la visite des animaux de compagnie in extremis s’avèrent un précieux réconfort pour les patients durant cette délicate période qui précède la mort. De manière générale, notre attachement envers les animaux est particulièrement fort : 68% des propriétaires de chats et de chiens interrogés considèrent leur animal comme un membre à part entière de la famille, et 7 français sur 10 se déclarent favorables à l’adoption d’une loi permettant d’être inhumé auprès de son animal de compagnie. Par conséquent, cette étude aborde également la présence animale post-mortem, dans l’objectif de pouvoir partager sa dernière demeure avec son animal de compagnie et de faire ainsi perdurer ce lien indéfectible au-delà de la mort.
