520 _aThe argument put forward in the article is that the anti-essentialist perspective generally adopted within the field of contemporary theory is of crucial importance for feminist thought. Such a perspective makes it possible to go beyond a conception in which a feminist politics is limited to the defence of certain particular interests considered to be specific to women “as women”. It is through the adoption of an anti-essentialist perspective that a feminist politics can take its place within the overall project of a “pluralist democracy”. What is at stake is thus the establishment of a “chain of equivalences” linking the multiple forms of struggle taken up against the various relations of subordination existing within our societies.
