| 520 | _aEmmanuel Terray (1935-2024) was a French anthropologist, a writer and a political activist. He died on 26 March 2024 at the age of 89. Coming from philosophy, he made his a non-dogmatic form of Marxist analysis. He taught in Côte d’Ivoire at the University of Abidjan where he helped found and directed the Institute of ethno-sociology. He is the author of 15 books crossing the lines between philosophy, anthropology, history and literature. His book, Une histoire du royaume Abron du Gyaman [A History of the Abron Kingdom of Gyaman] (1995), in Côte d’Ivoire, is actually a treaty of political economy of West Africa. While research director at EHESS from 1984, Emmanuel Terray was also an engaged human rights activist, working tirelessly in favor of poor workers and immigrants. | ||
