À quoi correspond une double orientation de l’homme, dont rend justement compte le film d’Ida Lupino, The Bigamist . Ces deux formes opposées mais complémentaires caractérisent aussi l’animus de la femme. Le film de Joseph Mankiewicz, L’Aventure de Mme Muir, est donné comme exemple de la tension créative produite chez une femme par les « deux esprits » qui l’habitent. Pour tenir compte, cependant, de cette différenciation du complexe et de l’archétype, il convient de substituer à la figure du quaternion du couple présenté par Jung dans la Psychologie du transfert, celle du sextolet (six occurrences au lieu de quatre) qui reconnaît la relation inconsciente des deux partenaires avec l’anima et l’animus sous leurs deux formes contraires.
