520			_aLe Château de Barbe Bleue, opéra de Bartók sur un poème-ballade de Balázs est un « mystère » au sens ancien du mot qui n’a plus beaucoup de rapport avec le conte de Perrault. La ballade comme la musique puisent aux racines culturelles de Transylvanie et tentent l’intégration de l’ancien au moderne. La ballade de Balázs par sa structure poétique conduit le conte vers la légende. Par le traitement des voix, de l’orchestration et l’utilisation de structures archétypiques musicales, Bartók transforme la légende en mythe et vient révéler la présence de deux noyaux mythiques. Le nom Kékszakállú (Barbe Bleue) traité comme une incantation vocale pour Judit est appel à la vie. Le mot château appelle la pierre, la pétrification et sa nécessaire animation. Les mythes musicaux, dont Hermès est l’acteur se caractérisent par leur dynamique de renversement/inversion et font de la musique un organisateur de la totalité par le rapprochement des contraires.
520			_aThe Bartók opera Bluebeard’s Castle, with a libretto by the poet Béla Balázs, is a “mystery” in the old-fashioned sense of the term, rather far removed from the fairytale by Perrault. Both the ballad by Balázs and the music draw upon Transylvanian cultural sources, experimenting with integrating ancient and modern. The poetic structure of the songs turns the tale towards legend. Bartók’s treatment of the voices, orchestration, and use of archetypal musical structures transforms the legend into a myth, and reveals two kernels at its core. The name Kékszakállú (Bluebeard), treated as a vocal incantation for Judit, is a call to life. The word “castle” is associated with stone, paralysis, and the need to bring to life. Musical myths, in which Hermes is an actor, are characterized by a dynamic of reversal/inversion. Music, by bringing opposites together, serves as a force that organizes the whole.
