Born in Iceland toward the end of the tenth century, she and her family went to Greenland where she was married twice. With her second husband she went to the New World recently discovered by their compatriots. She gave birth to a son but the family was forced to return to Iceland. After the death of her husband she went on a pilgrimage to Rome from where she returned to Iceland, spending the rest of her life as a hermit.
