520			_aComme son titre l’indique, ce texte se déploie en trois volets : anthropologique, il retrace à grands traits comment la notion d’aires culturelles s’enracine dans les représentations occidentales de l’autre et les idéologies depuis l’Antiquité. Il s’attache ensuite à mettre en évidence le rôle qu’a pu avoir l’approche par aires culturelles dans les sciences humaines et sociales au cours des deux derniers siècles. Enfin il explore les pistes d’une nouvelle pertinence des études d’aires culturelles à l’époque de la globalisation, en soulignant les préoccupations éthiques qu’elles entraînent.

It moves on to highlight the role that the approach by cultural areas has played in Humanities and Social Sciences in the last two centuries. Finally it explores the perspective for a new relevance of the Studies of cultural areas in the era of globalization, emphasizing the ethical concerns they entail.
