520 _aThe purpose of this paper is to study the notion of "impersonal" in the thought of Georges Bataille. This notion appears particularly in two books: the first one is about the painter Manet (published in 1955), the second one is about eroticism (1957). What Bataille called impersonal is not only the pictorial experience but also the erotic experience. Doesn't such an experience go hand-in-hand with the neo-Platonic experience which consists of going back to the first principle with which the soul searches to unite itself? In fact, this can be shown through the notion of the impersonal. Such a notion can have a different meaning in two different cases. But according to Bataille, the experience reveals itself as particularly original.
