520 | _aMany teenagers involved in sports consume psychoactive substances. This paper examines the influence of certain types of motivation and goals on such use. Two hundred twenty young people aged 12 to 19 completed an anonymous questionnaire, which included the sport motivation scale (Brière, Vallerand et al. 1995) and the goal orientation questionnaire (Cury, Da Fonséca et al. 2002). The results show that consumers of cannabis are less motivated by the sporting practice than the goals of competition. Therefore, the type of motivation and goal influence whether or not one consumes cannabis regularly. A prospective study should be undertaken to further examine cannabis use in teenagers involved in sports. | ||
