520 _aThe principle of mutual trust between the Member States is an essential premise in European Union law. Indeed, it is what allows the implementation of close cooperation between national actors within a European area without internal borders. However, this duty of mutual trust can only be envisaged if it based on a set of common values. The crisis of values that the European Union is currently experiencing therefore constitutes a threat to this principle of European Union law and obliges us to rethink the way the Member States collaborate with each other.
