She explores the equivocal nature of the image – creative or destructive – in regard to the ego’s capacity to receive, consider and confront the image. She gives three examples: Carl Gustav Jung, Sabina Spielrein and John Nash, of confrontation with images from the unconscious. The Outrenoir style of artist Pierre Soulages is evoked as an example of the exploration of the mysteries of black as revealed by light.
