| 520 | _aThe implantable automatic defibrillator (IAD) is designed to enable a different perspective on life for those suffering from a high-risk cardiovascular disease. The presence of an IAD leads to complex subjective metamorphoses that demand that the subject reclaim their desire to live while renouncing the feeling of immortality. This article attempts to identify a number of specific issues created by the insertion of an IAD, notably that it reveals our vulnerability by modifying the repression of our awareness of death. This article also examines how the IAD can lead the subject to transcend this awareness of death to (re) open up new perspectives on life. | ||
