Inscriptions present an other aspect of the place of women in the life of the sophist, and also in Athenian society of the imperial time: this study aims to show how the women of Herodes’ family circle contributed to his fortune and strengthened his international networks; it presents also women as true actors of Athenian public life, just like men.
