520 _aThe starting point of this contribution is the mythical episode of the goddess Hera suckling the hero Heracles, the illegitimate son of an adulterous relationship between her husband, Zeus, and the human Alcmene. The expansion and strength of this story has survived to the present day in iconographic and literary evidence. During the life of the hero, the relationship was characterized in terms of mutual violence. After the apotheosis of Heracles, Hera, voluntarily, is key to his entry into Olympus. My main objective is to analyse through the classical sources, what role breastfeeding played in this major transformation.
