520 _aThis paper argues that scientific studies on school violence must take into account the way it is depicted in the media and its potential effects on social representations. The refusal of the policy in/by the school institution and its corollary, the depoliticization of school violence, reinforce the ignorance of the actors. The social sciences, considered as peripheral sciences, are often absent from discussions and are sometimes delegitimized. Therefore, this paper compares the “media invention” of school violence with knowledge from the social sciences.
