520			_aRésuméDepuis toujours, l’infertilité est considérée comme un fléau, une malédiction et elle motive tant l’intérêt des scientifiques que celui des charlatans. Considérée comme une pathologie exclusivement féminine, elle a fait l’objet d’innombrables spéculations quant à son étiologie. Ce symptôme suscite en effet des imaginaires et des attitudes contrastés selon les sociétés et les époques, et le récit des patients porte l’héritage des mythes, des tabous et des interdits encore bien présents dans nos inconscients collectifs. On peut s’étonner de la persistance d’un irrationnel dans un domaine marqué par de considérables avancées scientifiques. Mais nous verrons, à travers l’histoire clinique d’Ariane, que dans ce cadre précis, l’irrationnel permet une construction mythologique qui définit et protège l’identité des patients.
