Cet article aborde les raisons qui motivèrent le changement des peintures et le rythme selon lequel il s’opérait, en étudiant l’histoire des cycles et leur iconographie. Prenant en compte les travaux les plus récents ainsi que de nouvelles découvertes en archives, le corpus d’étude – dont le répertoire est annexé en ligne – permet d’interroger la dimension spectaculaire de ces dispositifs comme l’implication des Jésuites dans sa diffusion.
520			_aAs a successor to the medieval polyptychs, some modern altarpieces were provided with a mechanism to display different altar paintings in succession. This article discusses the reasons for the change of pictures and the rhythm at which it took place, studying the history of the cycles and their iconography. Taking into account the most recent works as well as new discoveries in the archives, the corpus of study—whose repertory is annexed online of the article—allows us to explore the spectacular dimension of these devices as well as the involvement of the Jesuits in their diffusion.
