520 | _aIn 1998 there appeared an article by Marc Cote, a French geographer: “les oasis malades de trop d’eau”. It pointed to excess water resulting from excessive irrigation and inappropriate practices which aggravate the situation by poor management. The situation has hardly improved in more than 20 years. Worse still, the palm grove is deteriorating because of what was supposed to be a development factor: water.
