520 _a‪This article focuses on the specificity of the chronology of publicization of sexual abuse scandals within contemporary French Catholicism. Using the intra-ecclesial reception of the book Les Naufragés de l’Esprit, published in 1996, I study the influence of the socio-political context of the anticult movement on the framing of revelations of abuses committed within Catholic Charismatic communities. The defensive rhetoric mobilised at the time within the Catholic Church, based in part on a rejection of the analytical categories used (mind control, etc.), contributed to the reproduction of silence around cases of sexual abuse.‪
