520 _a‪Heresy is a notion used by Pierre Bourdieu both to escape from the indigenous notions of his fields of study and to construct a more general system articulated around the notion of symbolic revolution. Heresy as Pierre Bourdieu knows it is heir to the historiography of the 1970s and the 19th century representations of heresy in the artistic field. The evolution of the historiography of medieval heresy allows for a targeted critique of the notion of symbolic revolution, which makes it possible to apply it to medieval times without risk of projecting onto them an anachronistic conception of heresy, inherited from the modern relationship to rupture and novelty.‪
