520 | _aThe traditional form of child fostering called vidomègon is an integral part of child socialisation in South Benin. In the past fifteen years, however, the main international child protection agencies have associated the condition of young female vidomègon to child trafficking. The children are sent as servants or petty sellers to families who benefit from their work without really having to pay for it. The children who supposedly stand to benefit from the official interventions claiming to protect them do not always see them as positive. This paradox raises the question of the voice of the children and the attention paid to it in the interventions seeking to protect them. | ||
